Self Watering Containers or Planters

In my quest for building a efficient and low maintenance container garden, self watering pots are a must.
They are very helpful because you don't have to water your plants as often as is the case with regular pots.
That means you can take a vacation trips without worrying about your plants.
Also big plus for them is that plants are using just the right amount of the water they need from the reservoir below, so you will not kill your plants with over watering.
They will save water and maintain soil moist.
You can also use the reservoir to feed the plants with the liquid fertilizer.

Self watering planters are working on a principal of using the water reservoir bellow the plants roots,so the plant can feed from below using capillary action ( wick water to the plant roots).

IMPORTANT: Make sure to use potting mix for the soil, plain regular outside dirt or garden soil are not going to work.

They are available on sale online. If you want to start with only one container this one is very cool earthbox, Otherwise I suggest getting a whole earthbox set

Or If you are interested in DIY your own self -watering bucket here is the tutorial with pictures .
